i think the reason so many filmbros hate goncharov is because katya actually got fleshed out as a character as opposed to like, most other scorcese women. i mean it wasn’t perfect and there was still like the infamous Beer Bottle Scene but like cybill shepherd lived gave cunt and then FAKED HER DEATH. but nobody ever talks about itttt
"Ivan Goncharov" this, "Nikolai Goncharov" that, when will you guys realize there's a reason we don't know his first name. the POINT is that we don't know. Goncharev is a family name and whoever Goncharov used to be totally went up in being the head of the Family. he doesn't HAVE a personal name to denote who he is outside of his mafia persona.
okay but you guys realise our shared obsession with hit mafia drama Goncharov (1973) by Martin Scorsese is just all of us taking a film studies course after we finished our literature seminar on Bram Stoker's Dracula, here at Tumblr University
“One wrong move and this boat will be sailing for red waters, Goncharov. Tick tock, detective”
Goncharov (1973) Dir. Martin Scorsese
I’ve always loved the imagery in the ‘sleeping with the fishes’ scene - so glad ppl are giving this film the love it deserves!

i hope that the popularity of goncharov convinces people to watch mikey and nicky, which is a movie about two mobsters who are so close to having gay sex that at one point john cassavetes' character has sex while peter falk's character takes slow drags of his cigarette and watches. clocks and the passage of time are potent motifs. the only friends from childhood they have left are each other. they hold each other close and brawl in the streets and the betrayal at the end is so slow and inevitable it feels like watching a dentist wash their hands and put on their gloves before coming to pull out your teeth. it's literally just like my favorite movie goncharov
“ice pick joe perfectly encapsulates the same brutality as the other characters, the only reason people have issues with him is because he isn’t viewed through the eyes of someone who loves him” i say into the mic.
the crowd boos. i begin to walk off in shame, when a voice speaks and commands silence from the room.
"she’s right," they say. i look for the owner of the voice. there in the 5th row stands: martin scorsese himself.
‘so what are Tumblr up to now?’
‘chronological reading of the original Dracula novel. Johnathan Harker is everyone’s favourite character’.
‘Aaand now?’
‘Critical analysis of an entirely fictional mafia film by Martin Scorsese based on a pair of knockoff shoes and very good mock-up poster’
‘business as usual?’
‘yep’
